TORCH Singles and Gary

Gary at his new Rialto III

Ninety-nine was a year of growth and also conflict as Gary's overall health continued to deteriorate. He covered his bases but with increasing difficulty. Several things happened that were defining moments. One was hearing George Malkmus for the first time on Sid Roth's radio program. Gary paid special attention for he found that his mother's cancer had returned.

In addition Gary was rear-ended in traffic, ending the life of his Cutlass Ciera station wagon and allowing him to purchse an '89 Honda Civic. Gary's personal injuries could have had consequences but his attempts to boost health through a changed lifestyle were already starting to pay off.

All in all the spectre of Y2K and its attendant hullaballoo were a nice backdrop to what turned out to be a time of fun and transition for Gary.
